Took a drive today to the north of Gaylord. First stop was Indian River where there is a Catholic Church/Parish that it is claimed has the worlds largest crucifix. Known as the Cross in the Woods, it is a neat place with a huge outdoor church. The crucifix is 55 feet tall and 22 feet wide and dominates the entire area, it's very impressive. There were other statues including the Resurrected Christ and the Holy Family. The Stations of the Cross were also in the grounds and I asked Mike to explain it to me. Apparently it's been a few years since he was a little Catholic altar boy and he couldn't quite recall all the lessons the nuns taught him.
After a quick stop off in a little town whose name I can't remember for a pecan tart and a muffin (not all that good but they filled the gap) we headed for Harbor Springs to drive along the scenic route along the 119 to Cross Village. It's known as the tunnel of trees and is right along the coast of Lake Michigan. It was pretty, and is probably beautiful in the Autumn when the leaves are changing, and there are some gorgeous houses along the route. However, there was no access to the lake front nor anywhere to pull off the road to walk or sit. We had a nice drive though before heading home for dinner which Tal-y waited patiently for at the table.
Mike: Tal-y said "why are you late and where's my dinner?"
