After getting everyone cleaned up we decided to head into Pennsylvania just for a drive, with no real destination in mind (or in Nell). We ended up driving through Jamestown, and Sharon (not the nicest town around) and then stopping for lunch in Hermitage. Just down the road from the Mexican restaurant in Hermitage is the Avenue of 444 Flags. It’s actually the road into a Memorial Park and the avenue is lined with 444 American flags, one for each day that the American hostages were held captive in Iran under Ayatollah Khomeini. One flag was erected every day that they were held hostage as a symbol of hope and freedom. There is also a monument dedicated to the 8 US servicemen who attempted to rescue the hostages in April 1980. It’s makes for quite a sight, it is very dramatic.
We stopped off at a few stores on the way home looking for a new coffeepot and also for an easy chair that Mike has decided he needs to have for the patio. I think he just wants something that’s too big to put in the truck so he can tie it to the ladder when we are travelling.
Mike: Another one of Jimmy Carter’s mess-ups. He should stick to peanuts.
