Packed up and left this morning to head north to White Cloud. The drive was not bad, since it’s Sunday there was not much traffic on the roads at least until we got to Grand Rapids, then it got a little busier, and Mike even managed to get himself honked at and flipped off – there are lovely people in Michigan. On the way we stopped off at Cracker Barrel to have some food since I had heard this was a great place to eat at. Well after having to wait for about half an hour we had the worst breakfast I’ve ever eaten. It was gross, and the waitress was just plain stupid, sorry but there’s no other word for her. We asked her if there was meat in the gravy and she told us no, when it came it had ham and sausage in it. We told her and she said there were no lumps of meat but maybe some in the mix, and when we told her she could take it as we weren’t going to eat it she told us we didn’t have to if we didn’t want to. Duh!!! We also had pancakes, grits (which are totally pointless), biscuits and gross eggs (Mike asked for poached and they were like rocks). When we paid the cashier asked us if we had enjoyed the meal and Mike told her it was the worst breakfast he’d ever had; she thought he was joking but then got the manager when she realized he wasn’t. Cracker Barrel, we are definitely not coming back – I miss The Shack!
Besides that little hiccup the drive was easy through some nice countryside. We got checked in and to our space; this is definitely not one of the better places we have stayed at. The place itself is not bad, it’s right in the middle of the Manistee National Forest so it is vary quiet and we are surrounded by trees, but there are some weird folk here. I think a lot of the people live here permanently and they are a little dare I say, trashy. Forgive me for saying that, I think I’ve been in San Diego too long, but it’s true. There are also some really wide loads here, and by that I’m not referring to lorries or trucks. We are spending the next week here and it’ll be fine as there’s lots of places to go from here. There are no bugs at this campsite either so we’ll be able to do a little walking down to the lake and through the forest, that’s if we can bear to be out in this humidity.
Mike: Not too bad, nice lake, indoor pool and our site backs onto the national forest. Wi-Fi in the lodge and a great ice cream counter. I’ll try to be strong.
