We decided to take a drive yesterday, along the Seaway Trail, which
runs along the shore of Lake Ontario to Sackets Harbor. The drive was
pretty, lots of trees but very little lake. Not the most fun drive
we’ve been on since there wasn’t really anywhere to stop that had
access to the lake, just some towns along the route. On the way back
we stopped off in Watertown to get some food. We ate at a place called
Friendly’s, a burger joint, and there were definitely some people who
shouldn’t have been eating there. I have never considered myself small
but after spending time in Ohio and New York I feel petite, how can
there be so many large people in the same area? And I’m not just
talking a little overweight these people are obese. All ages, from
young kids to the oldies, they are huge and they all look so
uncomfortable. It’s sad to see. We did visit Mexico along the way,
which was a nice little place, and we did find an Amish family selling baked goods on the side of the road which made everyone in the car happy.
Today we drove south through Auburn to Seneca Falls to Lake Cayuga,
which is one of the Finger Lakes. In Indian folklore it is believed
that God placed his handprint on this area. There are actually 11
Finger Lakes and they are named for the tribes of the Six Nations of
the Iroquois. It was a pretty drive there and along the lakeshore,
unfortunately one of the only places to stop was a state park and
there are no dogs allowed.
Anyway, I think I am done with lakes. We have seen so many across the
last few states and since we don’t fish or boat they are not all that
much fun. Besides, they aren’t the ocean, the ocean has so much more
character and mystery!
Mike:Whine, whine, whine! I had to do a U-turn to get back to the Amish baked goods!
