Today we strolled out to the main gate and caught the Seaside trolley into town. We had decided not to drive in this morning as the traffic is crazy here at the best of times, and this weekend sees the annual beach volleyball tournament in town. The drive in was nice, especially as we saw more and more people circling looking for parking spots, and the trolley dropped us off right at the turnaround on the beach. By the time we got there the tournament was well under way, and it was pretty impressive to see so many people playing and also watching.

Here it comes |
This tournament is billed as the largest amateur beach volleyball competition in the world, but we were informed by another trolley rider this morning that it’s actually the second largest. Either way it was pretty cool to see more than 1,000 teams playing or waiting to play on the more than 125 courts that had been set up on the beach. As we walked among the courts there was sand and balls and people flying all over the place, the people of all ages, sizes and ability. We watched some great ball being played on center court, and some more mediocre ball being played on some of the outer courts, but it looked like everyone was enjoying the day at the beach, including the 7,000+ spectators.
Mike: I wanted to play but Becc was afraid I'd show her up!
