We got up this morning and took a little stroll around to check out the campground. It’s a little bit strange as it’s in three sections and each of them has their own entrance. We are on the one side of the road where all the full hook ups are. On the other side of the road are the two other sections, neither of which have sewer, but both are fairly full at the moment. It is possible to walk from one to the other, but not to drive, and both sections are right alongside the Skykomish River. It is prettier over the other side, but I prefer having sewer since we are here for a whole week.
After getting washed and dressed we headed into Monroe which is about five miles from the campground along Ben Howard Road that is lined on both side with farm and ranch land. It’s actually a really nice place, very quiet with some nice properties. Monroe, which was named for President James Monroe in 1889, was originally a logging center due to its location along both the Snohomish and Skykomish Rivers, but nowadays it is most definitely a farming community. There are some beautiful houses, both in the town proper and in the outlying areas that we drove around. A lot of them look as though they have been here for a good many years. The town itself is in good shape with hardly any boarded up store fronts, which is always much nicer to see than a sad run down town. It seems as though Monroe is continuing to thrive even though the major freeways bypass it.

Mike: Ah!, Americana is alive and well in Monroe, Washington!
